1.Why do I need to fix an error on my credit report?
2.What happens when you submit a credit report dispute?
3.How can you correct your credit report?
If you took the time and effort to dispute an error on your credit, but it didn’t result in a corrected report, don’t be discouraged.
1.Know your rights
You have the right to receive a copy of your credit report. It must contain all of the information in your file at the time of your request.
2.You may be eligible for a free credit report
You are entitled to a free report if a company takes adverse action against you, such as denying your application for credit.
Scan or copy all information supporting your case and send it to both the lender’s address supplied on the credit report and all three credit bureaus via certified mail.
4.If correction gets declined
Find out why. Look at your supporting documentation and letter of explanation you sent to the credit reporting agencies. Did it get your point across.
5. Adding a statement to your credit report
If you are getting no where and you cant get it removed. You may want to add a statement to your credit report. The statement should be specific to the dispute.
While you’re waiting for your dispute to be settled, you can work on improving your credit in other ways.
